10 NOVEMBER - 29 NOVEMBER 2024
Closing Event & Performance
Fri 29.11., between 17:00–19:00
18:00 Performance: Decomposing: This is Not a Love Song
By Mar Fjell & Freja Bäckman
The exhibition explores death work as the tender labor of preparing, tending, and bearing witness to the porous borders of life and death. Fjell draws from their family’s history of cemetery work, where caring for the soil and honoring decay become acts of connection. Using worn, humble materials that carry the marks of past lives, the exhibition embraces imperfection and resists finality. In the midst of grief and mourning, it offers dandelions—symbolic of resilience—growing luminous green in the gray November air. Life pushes through unlikely crevices, portals, and holes that bring pleasure.
Mar Fjell is an interdisciplinary artist based in Stockholm/Berlin. Their practice is positioned within performance and socially engaged art, and includes various media such as sound, text, video, performance and objects. Many of their works happen through collective processes or collaborations. Over the last years Mar has been engaged in projects related to transition work based on the element of water and soil as well as establishing platforms for feminist queer engagements, together with the artist and researcher Malin Arnell.
The exhibition also features workshops and performances in collaboration with the Baltic Circle International Theatre Festival. For details and registration, visit Baltic Circle’s website.
This exhibition is made possible with the support of the Swedish Arts Grants Committee, Kulturfonden för Sverige och Finland, and Nordic Culture Point.
